2015 Annual Report

Business Review

Operational Highlights

  • The effects of the El Niño phenomenon, together with the water conservation program of the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) resulted to lower dispatch for the 132-MW Pantabangan-Masiway hydro facility during the first nine months of 2015. However, these developments were mitigated by two unexpected typhoons during the last quarter of 2015 that significantly increased dam elevation. As a result, total plant generation increased by 4.2 percent to 259.2 GWh in 2015
  • FG Bukidnon experienced a decrease in plant output from 12.3 GWh in 2014 to 9.2 GWh in 2015 due to lower water inflow brought on by the El Niño phenomenon, resulting to lower electricity sales to CEPALCO
  • FG Hydro received a safety award from the Department of Energy (DoE) after reaching three million man-hours without a Lost Time Incident (LTI). There has not been a LTI since FG Hydro took ownership of the plant complex in 2006
  • FG Hydro was recommended for continued certification for Integrated Management Systems (ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and OHSAS 18001) by the Certification International of the Philippines (CIP) after undergoing recertification in May 2015
  • FG Bukidnon received certification for Quality (ISO 9001:2008), Environment (ISO 140001:2004), and Occupational and Safety and Health (OHSAS 18001:2008) management systems after the 2nd surveillance audit of TUV SUD PSB Philippines
  • FG Bukidnon received the Perfect Safety Record Award for achieving 33,263.1 man-hours without LTI from the Safety Organization of the Philippines (SOPI), as well as a safety award from the Safety and Health Association of the Philippines Energy Sector, Inc. (SHAPES) for achieving one year without a LTI
  • FG Bukidnon was awarded the Tripartite Certificate of Compliance with Labor Standards (TCCLS) and the Child Labor-Free Establishment from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Region 10.

Business Highlights

  • FG Hydro’s 12-MW Masiway hydro facility finished undergoing rehabilitation towards the end of 2015. This included the replacement of the facility’s circuit breaker and transformer. Governor, excitation, and protections systems were also completed by Alstom Hydro Philippines and Alstom Hydro China. Formal take-over of the refurbished Masiway plant is expected to take place in the first half of 2016, after the submission of as-built drawings and the completion of punch list items
  • The Business Development team is strengthening its expertise in hydroelectric power plant construction and development so that the company can start the construction of the 32-MW Bubunawan run-of-river hydro power project in 2016. This project is located in Mindanao. In 2015, the project commenced access road rehabilitation at the site, and this is expected to be completed by the first half of 2016. Moreover, First Gen has licenses to develop at least two other run-of-river hydro projects in Mindanao: namely, the 30-MW Puyo and the 40.5-MW Tagoloan.
